In the HIGHrISC approach put forth by your group, molecular triplet excitations convert into singlet ones by reverse intersystem crossing (rISC) from higher triplet states. This renders HIGHrISC emitters interesting for OLED applications. Rather simple and evironmentally benign aromatic carbonyls like acridones exhibit HIGHrISC behavior. In a collaborative study within ModISC, Constantin Czekelius´ group synthesized acridone derivates, Martin Kleinschmidt performed quantum chemical calculations, and our group conducted spectroscopic experiments. With this approach, acridones emitting in the deep blue region with high quantum yields and promising HIGHrISC properties were identified. The paper is featured on the cover of PCCP. The cover design is by the HHU graduate Pauline Morys and nicely captures the collabrative spirit of the study.
