Profile of the Faculty

7500 students - 11 institutes - nearly 70 professors - 30 Bachelor's programmes - 19 Master's programmes - about 250 research assistants - about 80 employees in technology and administration

studying

Studying at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities means thinking outside the box. It means taking on and experiencing a variety of perspectives on and engaging with with culture(s), languages, society and politics. Over 25 different degree programmes open up wide-ranging career prospects and offer the chance to try out one’s academic skills in a very practical way.

teaching

Teaching at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities means having a great deal of creative freedom, which we reflect on together across disciplinary boundaries in the context of tertiary education didactics. We have the aspiration to offer teaching that is varied in terms of content and methodology and is research-oriented, which we modulate according to students’ abilities in dealing with new knowledge. We see the digitisation of teaching methods as a didactic opportunity.

research

Research at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities does not only stand for innovative research projects which are inherently interdisciplinary and aim at an international academic audience. For us, research means a lively exchange across disciplinary boundaries. Our research centre constitutes a space for further sharpening the profile of the faculty in culture, media, society, language, history and aesthetics.

The Faculty of Arts an Humanities offers its members competent support in all matters of organisation and management. The highly professional Dean's Office and the interconnected departmental administrations ensure a secure flow of information at all levels. Representatives of all status groups of the faculty are involved in the committees and the faculty council. (Further information only in german).
