Faculty of Arts’ Equal Opportunities Office
Gender equality work
What we do:
The Faculty of Arts’ Equal Opportunities Office is actively committed to equal opportunities and the structural embedding of equality. Its work covers four key areas:
Through its scholarships for women, it provides targeted support for women’s academic and professional development. The Equal Opportunities Commission decides on the award of these scholarships and ensures that funding is channelled where it will make the greatest difference.
In addition, the Equality Office promotes events that raise the profile of equality issues, stimulate social dialogue and help to raise awareness in everyday university life.
The Gender Equality Team is continuously committed to implementing gender equality in the day-to-day life of the university – through networking, mutual exchange and active participation in appointment committees. This ensures that gender equality considerations are consistently taken into account and upheld in staffing decisions.
I have two young children (aged 1 and 3), the younger of whom is not yet in childcare, so I am unable to take on paid work alongside my studies. Since our parental allowance came to an end last year, we have really felt the financial strain, and the support provided by the Women’s Empowerment Scholarship has allowed us to breathe a little easier.
