Publication process & published dissertations
Congratulations on successfully completing your doctoral studies! In order to receive your doctoral certificate, you must now publish your dissertation. You have three years to do so after your defence.
The Doctoral Regulations currently provide for three forms of publication:
- Publication in book form by a publishing house
- Publication as an eBook by a publishing house
- digital publication via the ULB server
Please refer to the Doctoral Regulations for information on the respective requirements associated with the different forms of publication.
The decision on which of these publication formats to use is yours. However, please feel free to seek advice from your support team.
Three steps are required to display the publication of your dissertation and to receive your doctoral certificate.
- First, create a final manuscript. Before printing, you must complete the print approval form and have it signed by your first supervisor.
- Displaying the publication in the ULB: Submit one to three printed copies of your publication and the print approval to the ULB. Please check with the ULB in advance to find out which documents are required. You will then receive a confirmation of receipt from the ULB by email.
- Displaying the publication in the Doctoral Office: Submit the print approval, the confirmation of receipt from the ULB and, if applicable, proof of the required minimum print run (for a publication in book form) to the Doctoral Office.
You can complete all steps either during personal appointments or by post. If you would like to collect your doctoral certificate in person from the Doctoral Office, simply make an appointment in good time.
Please note the following guidelines for the design of your publication:
Please add the label ‘D61’ on the back of the title page. This will identify your publication as a Düsseldorf dissertation.
If the title of the publication differs from that of the submitted dissertation, please include a note to this effect on the back of the title page in the copies to be submitted. This can be done, for example, with a sentence such as: ‘The publication was submitted/accepted/etc. as a dissertation entitled XY at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Heinrich Heine University.’.
By the way: Once your work has been published, you can apply to the Doctoral Office for a printing subsidy...
