Submission of your dissertation

The time has come: Your dissertation is ready and can be submitted to the Doctoral Office. In addition to your dissertation, please bring the completed and signed application form for admission to the doctoral procedure and all other necessary documents with you.

For all those who are doing their doctorate according to the new doctoral regulations (PO of 16.10.2017):

  • Application for admission to the doctoral procedure
  • 3 copies of the dissertation, in each case also additionally:
    - in electronic form (CD or USB stick);
    - with an incorporated and handwritten signed affidavit with the following text: "I affirm in lieu of oath that the dissertation was written by me independently and without undue outside help in compliance with the 'Regulations on the Principles of Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf'";
    - with a short curriculum vitae.
  • A detailed curriculum vitae and a copy of the affidavit for the doctoral file.
  • A summary of the contents of the dissertation in the size of one DIN A4 page in German or English;
  • Proof of doctoral studies (in accordance with § 7 of the Doctoral Regulations) and enrolment (in accordance with § 6 Para. 4 of the Doctoral Regulations);
  • A declaration as to whether the display of the dissertation and the expert opinions on the dissertation is desired in printed or electronic form in accordance with § 13 Para. 2 of the Doctoral Regulations;
  • A statement as to whether the disputation is to be held in German or English;
  • If applicable, a reasoned request to exclude the faculty public or the audience during the disputation;
  • If applicable, proof that obligations pursuant to § 3 (2) of these regulations have been fulfilled;
  • If applicable, written declarations by the supervisor pursuant to § 8 (3) or (5) of these Rules;
  • If applicable, certificates of previous schooling and studies, in particular the school leaving certificate and certificates of academic examinations or state examinations in certified photocopies;
  • If applicable, proof of the language skills required in accordance with Annex 2;
  • If applicable, a statement as to whether or when and where the applicant has already completed a doctorate which has not been successfully completed.

For all who are doing their doctorate according to the "old" doctoral regulations (PO of 04.07.2000, last amended 10.10.2014):

  • Application for admission to the doctoral procedure
  • 3 copies of the dissertation, in each case also additionally:
    - in electronic form (CD or USB stick);
    - with an incorporated and handwritten signed affidavit with the following text: "I hereby declare that I have independently produced the present work without using any other aids than those indicated and that I have identified the thoughts taken over directly or indirectly from external sources as such and that the work has not yet been submitted in the same or similar form to any examination authority and has not yet been published. Parts that have already been published are marked in the work". (place, date) (signature).";
    - with short curriculum vitae included.
  • A detailed curriculum vitae and a copy of the affidavit for the doctoral file.
  • A summary of the contents of the dissertation in the size of one DIN A4 page in German or English;
  • A police clearance certificate that is no more than six months old.
  • Certificate of participation in a doctoral colloquium and two doctoral seminars in theory and methods.
  • A statement as to which form of oral doctoral performance the doctoral candidate chooses; if the oral doctoral performance is based on the doctoral viva, a proposal for the examiner in the second major subject or the examiners in the two minor subjects;
  • If applicable, a reasoned request to exclude the faculty public or listeners during the disputation or the doctoral examination;
  • If applicable, proof that the requirements of Annex 3 of these regulations have been fulfilled;
  • Proof of any additional academic achievements required under § 3, Sub-Clause 2;
  • If applicable, certificates of previous schooling and studies, in particular the school leaving certificate and certificates of academic examinations or state examinations in certified photocopies;
  • If applicable, proof of the language skills required in accordance with Annex 2;
  • If applicable, a statement as to whether or when and where the applicant has already completed a doctorate which has not been successfully completed.
